June 15th: World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Every year on June 15th, the world comes together to recognize and denounce the abuse of older adults. A cause that touches us directly, every single day.
Elder abuse takes many forms: psychological, financial, physical, and neglect. It affects people from all walks of life, in all kinds of situations, and remains far too often hidden. Out of fear, shame, or simply because no one was there to see it.

This is precisely where our role takes on its full meaning. At Répit-Ressource, every home visit is also an opportunity to observe, listen and be present for the people we support. Our care workers are trained to recognize signs of distress and to respond with kindness, discretion and respect for each individual situation

But vigilance is not just the responsibility of professionals. It belongs to everyone: neighbours, friends, family members. A change in behaviour, sudden isolation, unexplained marks or unusual financial distress can all be signs that should not be ignored

If you have concerns about the situation of a loved one, do not hesitate to contact the Elder Abuse Helpline at 1 888 489-2287, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Caring for older adults also means ensuring they are respected and safe, at home and everywhere else.
